They were given the yellow diamond coupling code as they were to work in the areas of the other yellow diamond lightweight sets, particularly in West Cumberland. However, in the two and a half years before they were delivered plans must have changed as they were delivered to Walsall while a decision was made on where to use them. These areas included West Cumberland, but were mainly used in the Manchester area based at NH, although on occasions worked south as far as Stafford or Wolverhampton.
