The GRC&W Co. Ltd built 20 of these single unit railcars, to
designs drawn up by Derby C&W works. They were nicknamed along with Class 121s as "bubble cars". They were
designed by BR Derby for the Birmingham and London areas of the WR.
Trailer cars were built for these vehicles, becoming TOPS Class 150.
These were used as loadings required. Ordered by the BTC in mid-56, they were
built concurrently with the Cross-Country Class 119s, as part of the
same order which totaled 110 cars.
