Photos by Nick Lander of a set in the 1970's, still with original interior and copy of the original black and white Works photos, from originals held in the Gloucester County Council Archive.

Apart from the Derby front end, the most noticeable difference was in the use of dark timber edging strips for the green fleck formica panels used inside and the lack of curtains for 2nd class, where cloth blinds were used. This gave quite a dark and austere interior design. Evidence of their intended use for long-haul services over main lines was in the provision of a buffet and larger than usual guards van.
