All were allocated to CA. Initially only the seats were removed, although later a more substantial conversion was carried out, including the fitting of roller shutter doors, with two sets of these on the DTCs where the vestibules/passenger doors had been.
At the end of 1990 Regional Railways Midland sub-sector took ownership the parcel twins (as well as four Class 128s). They intended to use the DPU vehicles as a source of spares, with the TL11 engines planned for modification and fitting to Class 142 Pacers. Component recovery was planned to take place at Derby Etches Park or Chester Wagon shops. Four sets actually went to Inverness for stripping before being scrapped at MC Metals, while the other went into departmental use. A gallery of the parcel vehicles can be found here. 54028/33/41/42 also saw some parcels use.
ADB 977775/6 were used as an Advanced Passenger Train development and training coaches, then became route learning and inspection saloon vehicles, and finally they were used as an Automatic Train Protection Test Unit. |
