The first sets entered service on the ER in the autumn of 1957. The DMBS was powered by two Leyland engines. Withdrawal began in 61 with 2 sets (50415/56170 & 50419/56174). In May 1971 the DMBS from 50417/56173 was withdrawn, and normal passenger service ended in October 1971 when 50418/56172 went. The fifth set went into non-passenger use.
