(DMBS) was preserved at Peak Rail. This was moved to the
Midland Railway Centre for spares recovery (many parts
were gained for the Derby Lightweight restoration project)
and cut up on site.
51572 (DMC) was initially preserved on the East Kent
Railway, arriving there in July 1993. In 1996 it was bought by Railcar
Enterprises, and moved to the Mid-Norfolk Railway that December. In
2004 it was sold to Class 107 Ltd and moved to the Wensleydale
Railway.
51909 and 56271 were bought in 1994 for a proposed off-peak service on the Avon Valley
Railway, expected to start in 1996 when the extension to the River
Avon was to open. In the mean time they were stored at Long Marston.
51941 and
52064 arrived at the SVR on 29/3/91. The cars had been
Tyseley TO68 set, and were originally been earmarked for
sale to Balfour Beatty for use on a tunnel inspection
unit in connection with Channel Tunnel construction work.
BB changed their minds after some doubts over the
suitability of using a DMU set in the tunnel. The
Birmingham DMU group had originally earmarked a Class 104
set but had found asbestos traces in it, so took the
Class 108 as a replacement.
56207 and
59245 were bought by the Appleby - Frodingham Railway
Preservation Society for use on rail tours around the
British Steel Plant at Scunthorpe, being delivered on
27/7/90. The corridor connection at the brake end of the
TBSL was removed and the van turned into an observation
area. They entered service in the summer of '91 on the
8-mile circular tour of the site, and were painted into maroon and
cream.
59389 was cut up at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre (Ruddington)
after stripping of parts.
