Class 107 Derby 3-car sets
Built by BR Derby Works
Introduced : 1960 Coupling Code : Blue Square
Body : 58ft 1in x 9ft 3in Engines : BUT (AEC) of 150hp
Transmission : Standard Mechanical

Introduced in Dec '60, there were 26 of these low density sets built, which were externally very similar to the later batches of Class 108s, although they are of a more robust steel construction making them considerably heavier. This earned them the name of "Derby Heavyweights". They were the last 1st generation DMU vehicles to be built at Derby.

The BUT equipment was ordered for the vehicles about Nov. '59.

These vehicles were built for the ScR and worked mainly from the Glasgow area. The class remained in Scotland until withdrawal, mainly working from the Glasgow area. There were occasions though that they ventured south of the border.

In their later days they were frequently seen with "foreign" centre cars, normally of Class 101. Most vehicles were withdrawn in 1991/2.
