56156 was delivered to 3C in April 1958, paired with 50401.

It was withdrawn in February 1981 and went into departmental use as a Sandite car numbered 977047.

It was cut up at Vic Berrys in Leicester in August 1986.

977047, the only Class 103 to be used as a Sandite car, is seen at Wigan Springs Branch on the 22nd September 1984. Note the missing vacuum bag. Paul Moxon.
