Advertising for the introduction of Railcars to the Edinburgh services, 1958

The above three adverts appeared over three weeks (January 8th, 15th & 22nd) in two Edinburgh newspapers (Edinburgh Evening News and Edinburgh Evening Dispatch), teasing the public about what was ahead.

On January 27th this advert appeared in the same two papers and also the Scotsman.

There was a leaflet available (below), no doubt at the public exhibition mention on the advert for the 28th January.

Click on the thumbnails below for larger images of the leaflet.

For the second stage of their introduction, these adverts were run in the following issues: 1st advert - Dalkeith Advertiser & Peebles News 6th & 13th Feb, Southern Reporter 7th & 14th Feb, and Border Telegraph on the 11th.

The second ad was printed in the Scotsman, Edinburgh Evening News and Edinbrugh Evening Dispatch on the 12th February.

To advertise the thirds stage, to Leith, this advert ran in the Edinburgh Evening News and Edinburgh Evening Dispatch on April 30th.

The final stage was to Musselburgh, and as with the second stage the adverts differed depending on what end of the line the paper was. The one on the left was printed in the Edinburgh Evening News and Edinburgh Evening Dispatch, and the one on the right in the Musselburgh News, all on June 6th.

The total cost of the newspaper advertising campaign was £802. 13. 3.

The timetables issued were also altered to reflect the new trains, and here are two examples.
