56101 was delivered new to 9A (on loan) in July 1957 paired with 50346. It was withdrawn in October 1972.

It went into departmental use as DB 975539 as an ER inspection saloon paired with DB975349 (51116).

It was ultimately cut up by MC Metals at Springburn in July 1993.
