Class 101 DMU at Tyne Commission Quay, North Shields

2nd May 1970

E56219 is the leading vehicle forming the last train at Tyne Commission Quay on 2nd May 1970 before closure two days later. This was the final train to Newcastle for passengers sailing to/from Norway. Connecting buses took over from this date. 'The Norseman' headboard was supplied by one of the numerous enthusiasts aboard, to commemorate the through train to Kings Cross of that name which had ceased running in 1966. Trevor Ermel.

A Darlington - Saltburn train formed of E56219 + E50223 in Thornaby station on October 25th, 1982, not long before demolition of the station buildings. John Carter.

31st May 1982

Met-Camm set E56219 + E50256 and Class 108 set E56203 + E50604 in Darlington station on May 31st, 1982. John Carter.

30th July 1983

A Class 101 at Hartlepool, 30/07/1983. Nearest the camera is DTS(L) E54219 in the southern / eastern bay platform awaiting departure with the 12:54 Hartlepool - Darlington. At this time there were such services operating on a two-hourly frequency throughout the daytime, supplementing the hourly Newcastle-Middlesbrough services. Graeme Phillips Collection.

Two hybrid DMU formations at Manchester Victoria on 17-10-88, a Class 116/101 2-car (N656 53843 and possibly 54219) and a Class 101/110 3-car (51533 + 59812 + 51463). The unusual location of the BR logo on the 116 is due to the removal of Valleys branding. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.
