Class 101 DMU at Thornton Junction

late 1960s

A three-car Met-Camm DMU in Thornton Junction station, DMBS Sc51470 closest with yellow cab doors. Taken in the late 1960s, Wikipedia notes the station closed on 6 October 1969. Graham Clark.

Class 101 DMU at Ayr MPD

2nd May 1978

Set number: 175

Refurbished late in 1976, DMBS 51470 is stabled on Ayr MPD as part of a 3 car unit. In regular service conditions the white and blue livery, which denoted refurbished units at the time, was found difficult to keep clean so units concerned were repainted into blue and grey livery and the stylised GG 'Greater Glasgow' emblem did not last very long either. 51470 was withdrawn in April 1988 and scrapped by MC Metals in Glasgow during October 1989. Bob Woolnough.

Class 101 DMU at Kyle Street

circa mid-1982

Set number: 101335

SC51470 from set 101335 is seen in Kyle Street Sidings at Ayr circa mid-1982. Another Class 101 can be seen behind the wall in the station. John Horne.

The vehicle is mentioned in the following images:

DMU

Date: circa 1981

A Class 120/101 hybrid set with a refurbished Met-Camm departs Fairlie High station en route to Largs circa 1981. It's an ex-Inverness DMS, of which two were at Ayr at the time. It is probably 51794 rather than '89, as it was noted working with 59680 + 51470 in February 1981. Andrew McConnell.

DMU

Date: 6th June 1989

SC51537 with SC51470, SC59556 and 26029 at Springburn Yard on June 6, 1989. Nicholas Youngman.
