ISSUE
22 - DECEMBER 1997
INTRODUCTION
At the
conception of the Railcar issue of including DEMU's was
raised, and although there were no objections, the topic
was never covered. This month we received a letter from
Hampshire & Sussex Units Preservation Society
Limited, asking us to mention this group. See the article
in the "news".
Saturday 17th
January is the deadline for Issue 23 of The
Bulletin.
NEWS
Website
The Railcar has plans to introduce a site for the
DMUs (plus DEMUs and railbuses) on the Internet. We hope
to feature preservation details, comprehensive class
histories, news on the remaining units in service on the
national network, etc.
This would provide a central access point for the
enthusiasts and include links to any other DMU sites that
already exist. Do any groups have website at the moment?
Does your Railway have a site - with or without a DMU
page.
If your unit(s) are not featured on the web already, a
page would be created for you if you supplied the
information - details on their BR career, when bought,
work done in preservation, current condition, future running dates, etc.
This expanded and illustrated version of The Railcar
would make information on your vehicles available
worldwide via the Internet. Links to/from our site will
allow browsers to access your details and may tempt them
to visit your railway. Longer articles, that would have
been in the abandoned Quartely Journal, could be
featured.
We propose an increase in the subscription rate to fund
this idea. A £2 increase would cover the costs involved.
So, for £6 per year, you would get 12 issues of The
Monthly Bulletin and information and pictures sent in
would be included in the Railcar web site. A link would
be set up to any existing DMU page, plus links to any
site your railway has.
We would be grateful for any feedback on this idea.
please send in your questions, suggestions, opinions,...
