Breda built 140 Aln 556 using imported  130 hp AEC engines (2) and Wilson gearboxes between 1938 and 1940.
After the war engines were changed in favour of a type built by Breda delivering 150 hp and speed reduced from 90 mph to 75 mph.
Withdrawals didn’t start until late 1970s and were completed in 1983.
Two units had been saved no.2312 in the national collection and no. 2331 at Pistoia locomotive depot.

Aln 772 was the final evolution of pre-war railcars in Italy and was built in no less than 323 examples by both OM and Fiat between 1940 and 1957.
Engines were two of 150 hp built under license from Saurer Switzerland while transmission was hydraulic built under license from SRM Sweden.
The last examples ceased to work in 1986 but three were preserved: 1033 at Museo Ferroviario Piemontese (now waiting certification for mainline use), 3265 at Pistoia locomotive depot and 3375 in the National Railway Museum.
