A word from No Nonsense Kits -
For those who lamented it's disappearance,
the MTK range has been taken over by a new company, No Nonsense Kits.
The company's intention is to re-tool the whole range, having already
started with some of the SR EMUs, progressing to DMUs and overhead
electric units in 2000. Kits will be up-dated with new high-quality
castings that fit together, etched bogie centres and underframes, and
improved body shells as applicable. Existing press tools have already
been refurbished and modified, and new ones produced as required. New
patterns are progressing well, with CAD being used to prepare accurate
photo tools for etched components.
The new kits owe little to MTK except basic
layout, and as such will be sold under the NNK name. The owner of the
business has already established a good reputation for quality, having
prepared tooling for South Eastern Finecast, DJH, and several other
major manufacturers.
The first new DMU kits to be produced will be
for Classes 120, 123, 124 and 126. The Railcar Association and the
Swindon Diesel Preservation Society are assisting with research into
both historical and technical details. Release is expected in late
Spring/early Summer 2001.
Because the MTK range covered dozens of
locos/coaches/units - in fact there were a total of 542 kits in the
4mm range - revision of everything will take some time. Accordingly,
production of some of the cast/etchings kits will continue where it is
possible to produce castings/etchings of a reasonable quality from the
existing tooling. Additionally, almost all cast components will be
available to order, at prices reflecting their lineage.
