Heart of Wales Line

Llandrindod Wells station. A summer Saturday between 1986 and 1992, and a Cross-Country is running with a Class 101. Both David Rowe.

Left: This was a 4-car formation of 2x101 power twins which hit a farm tractor at speed on a crossing about one mile north of Llandrindod Wells while travelling south on a summer Saturday afternoon in the late 1980s. Fortunately there were no injuries. The damaged power twin was removed and parked in the siding for about a week. The 100 or so passengers piled into the second unit and left Llandrindod about one hour late. The damaged unit remained in the siding for about one week and was then coupled to a south bound service train. Left: a southbound service exchanging tokens at Llandrindod wells signal box (which has since been moved to the southbound platform as a visitor centre). Right: a northbound service taken on 26 May 1989 approaching Llandrindod Wells signal box - this unit is believed to be one of the single engine Class 111s, bearing the 'METROTRAIN' plus logo E prefixed numbers.
