Front ends at Princes Risborough. A Class 115 DMU pauses, while brand new 1983 tube stock (car no 3643) on delivery from Metro-Cammell to Neasden, waits to start the final stage of its journey on Sunday February 21 1988 (but only after the driver finally managed to coax an unwilling 31271 into starting after its overnight rest). The 1983 stock turned out to be not as reliable as hoped, while the single leaf doors caused greater dwell times than anticipated. Like the 115s, all 1983 tube stock has been withdrawn and most has been scrapped after a life of only around 15 years. Mel Holley. Right: This 1978 view is at Barrows Green (East side of Widnes) with a Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime Street Service. Paul Wright

Left: A set at Diggle, 21/10/72. John Reddyhoff  Right: The Final Class 115 service on Chiltern. Gazza Prescott
