The vehicles were withdrawn in the late '60s and there would be no interest in DMU preservation for many years after that. Thankfully though a single car and a 2-car set went into departmental use and survived long enough to be appreciated. The 2-car set has been bought by the Derby Lightweight Preservation Society after a huge public campaign to raise the huge sum required for purchase, transport and asbestos removal. The single car, was bought privately by an member of staff that worked with it in its later years.
